Dunedin, New Zealand – American French Fries is proud to announce the independent release of their third LP Bigger Things To Worry About, available through bandcamp and all digital streaming services on the 5th of July, 2019.

Bigger Things To Worry About leaves the lilting country inflections of 2016’s Somehow Belong behind to explore new textures, instruments and soundscapes. The change in sound and the three-year gap between releases can be explained by “life things” – moving city, starting a family, starting a new job – and a hunger to prove the American French Fries sound is capable of evolution beyond the standard tropes of post-rock and math rock.

What hasn’t changed is the ethos of “DIY with a capital Y”, with the sole member of the band Kaine Harington providing all composition, instrumentation, engineering, production, mixing, mastering and even hand-building many of the electronics used to shape the tones of the record. The only sound not provided by Harington on this record comes in the form of a sample of a heartbeat on opening track Heart Beat, provided by the composer’s daughter, at her 12-week scan.

In the spirit of including new instruments and textures, the forth track Apologies In Advance is the first American French Fries track to include vocals. “The title reflects the fact that I understand this can be an alienating move for instrumental bands, but outside of the instrumental world, I am forever responding to questions like “When do the vocals start?” so at least now I can say “Track 4, LP3”” said Harington of the track.

This record will appeal to fans of Tortoise, Tycho, Mogwai, Battles and anybody with an interest is rock music focused on atmosphere over anything else.
